Polygon Impression AX Tandem Bike with Disc Brakes

There are few better ways to share the enjoyment of cycling than with a Tandem. Tandem bikes are designed to be ridden with a captain in the front, and a stoker or passenger in the rear. The rider in the front controls the bike, leaving the rider in the rear, with nothing more to do than to assist with pedaling and enjoy the ride, in fact the rear rider needs hardly any balancing skills at all.

This aluminium framed tandem is light, in fact, its one of the lightest on the market. This makes it not only easy to ride, but also simple to put on any rear car rack. In fact, after taking the front wheel off the bike, it is not much longer than a regular adult mountain bike, and can be fitted to any regular car.

This iteration of the tandem has been significantly improved. The wheels are larger 27.5” rims and are the wheel of choice for tandem bikes. When you are carrying two passengers, the forces that go through the wheel are much higher and as such you need strong wheels to survive any impact with gutters or harsh, unforgiving roads. Larger 700c, “Road bike” wheels are inherently weaker and can result in warping or bending of the rim.

By having 27.5” wheels also allows for a lower standover height and in fact, this tandem can accommodate an incredible range of rider heights. Both riders benefit from adjustable stems and seat posts to ensure that both young and the young-at-heart will be comfortable on the bike.

The tyres have been upgraded to balloon tyres, these are much wider and more comfortable than traditional MTB or road tyres.

A great feature on this bike is the drivetrain. Featuring a 24 speed Shimano Altus groupset complete with huge 11-32 speed rear cassette, you have all the gears you need to tackle the steepest of ascents. The drive train also features an eccentric bottom bracket – this is the way the chain is tightened between the front and rear riders. Eccentric bottoms brackets are by far and away the best system in the market. Trying to use a tensioner system is messy and unreliable; an eccentric bottom bracket like this is the only way to keep that chain on.

As the name indicates, the tandem now features disc brakes too. This has been the most desired upgrade over previous rim brakes. Disc brakes provide confidence inspired braking with much more consistent, and powerful braking in all conditions.

For more information, check out the below video. Please note this new version now comes with disc brakes.

All of our bicycles come with a Free Pro Build valued at $99. This means that your bicycle will be pre built by our professional mechanics. For your convenience, safety and comfort all our bikes are fully assembled prior to delivery. The bike is then packaged back into a box for secure shipment.

When your bike arrives, all you have to attach is the front wheel, the handlebar and pedals, everything else has been done – the headset has been adjusted, wheels trued, pedals and seat post greased, brakes and gears calibrated, and the tyres have been pumped up (please note upon arrival, in some cases you may need to add more air to tyres).

Most companies simply sell you the bike as it comes from the factory, which will require significant know-how to get your bike on the road. Currently we are the only Australian company providing this service, and have the 14 day test ride to back it up.

How does my bike arrive? Bicycles Online

Whilst your new bicycle will have already gone through our Pro Build process, you will still need to complete some minor final assembly steps when you take your bicycle out of its box.

Please follow the video playlist below to correctly complete the setup of your new bike:

Assembly Time:

  • 10-15min - You have assembled bikes before
  • 15-25min - You are mechanically handy
  • 30-40min - Never assembled a bike and working with tools isn't your thing

Unboxing your bike:

Start by carefully opening the top flap to expose the contents. You will see the bike with plenty of protective packaging and next to the rear wheel, the saddle & seatpost, a small cardboard box where your pedals, tools, bell and reflectors are. If you ordered any other products with the bike, it is likely they were placed on the bottom of the box as well. Remove all the loose items before pulling the bike out of the box and gently placing it on the floor.

Keep the box and all the protective packaging found on the bike in case you choose to change frame sizes, upgrade/downgrade the bike, or return the bike for a full refund under the 14 Day Test Ride Policy.
