How to Choose the Right Bicycle Lube?

Bicycle chain lubricant, chain lube or chain oil is an essential item for your bike maintenance. However, choosing the right lube for your needs can be a difficult task. Since there are so many different options out there, we just wanted to make it a little easier for you. We've found these videos from Finish Line that explains a bit more about the different types of lubricants.

To summarise, there are 3 types of lubricantes:

WET Bicycle Chain Lubricant

Pros: Best for wet conditions, last longer on the chain, require less applications

Cons: Attracts dust especially in dusty dry conditions, chain will be sticky to touch

DRY Bicycle Chain Lubricant

Pros: Best for dry conditions, the most versatile lubricant, chain won’t be sticky or tacky to touch, doesn't attract dust

Cons: Wears off in wet conditions, require more regular applications than wet lubes

WAX Bicycle Chain Lubrican

Pros: Best for dry to damp conditions, less messy, keeps the chain cleaner, doesn't attract dust

Cons: needs to be re-applied more often than dry lubes
