How to Choose the Right Bicycle Lube?
Bicycle chain lubricant, chain lube or chain oil is an essential item for your bike maintenance. However, choosing the right lube for your needs can be a difficult task. To summarise, there are 3 types of lubricantes:
WET Bicycle Chain Lubricant
Pros: Best for wet conditions, last longer on the chain, require less applications
Cons: Attracts dust especially in dusty dry conditions, chain will be sticky to touch
DRY Bicycle Chain Lubricant
Pros: Best for dry conditions, the most versatile lubricant, chain won’t be sticky or tacky to touch, doesn't attract dust
Cons: Wears off in wet conditions, require more regular applications than wet lubes
WAX Bicycle Chain Lubrican
Pros: Best for dry to damp conditions, less messy, keeps the chain cleaner, doesn't attract dust
Cons: needs to be re-applied more often than dry lubes
