2019 Polygon Strattos S7 - Shimano 105, 22 Speed Carbon Road Bike

Each year, Polygon continues to raise the bar with what you can now buy for just a fraction of what the equivalent bike would cost you from one of the premium European road bike brands in the market. Probably the bike that represents this so well is the new Strattos S7 which is now equipped with the latest Shimano 105 R-7000 groupset. The Strattos S7 is a fast and lightweight carbon road bike with a balanced ride quality, superior handling characteristics and a parts group that's fast and dependable.  This bike is very capable and will shepherd you through everything from epic gran fondos and weekend training rides, to short, punchy Tuesday night criteriums with snappy responsiveness and speed.

The new S7 is built around an upgraded ACX Carbon Performance frame built from Toray T-700 and high-modulus carbon fibre. The design upgrades see the Strattos frame take on a more aero persona with truncated aero tube profiles, together with a newly integrated seat clamp junction. The seat tube stops at the junction of the top tube rather than extending upwards with the seat post, this certainly results in marginal aero gains but it also gives the bike much cleaner lines. This is further extenuated with the seat clamp which is integrated into the tube shapes. This new frame is now also 150 grams lighter than its predecessor weighing in at just 1kg.

Polygon manufactures bikes for many of the worlds top-tier brands, and their painting facilities are renowned as being industry leading. Their dust-free, air-conditioned facility can produce some of the most advanced complex finishes and it is evident on the S7. The stunning red to orange paint fade is very difficult to create and has been meticulously applied hand by master craftsman.

You will notice the upfront torsional stiffness of this frame, created with the tapered headtube. This provides exceptional handling during descents and sprints. This is complemented with the beefy Shimano pressfit BB86 bottom bracket. This wider bottom bracket shell anchors the oversized drive spine, solidly transferring power to the drivetrain while reducing watt-sucking lateral movement.

It’s the broad notes of comfort that really lingers with the rider, however, with the narrower, flat-section seat stays absorbing any jarring road noise. Furthermore, the fork with tapered steerer, has carbon layered in a specific way to ensure that there is a level of vertical compliance whilst still maintaining that ever important, horizontal rigidity.

The drivetrain is dripping with technology too with the new Shimano 105 R-7000 groupset featuring high-performance dual pivot alloy brakes, a 50/34 crankset along with an 11/28 cassette to help you keep that magical cadence you need for long rides, regardless of the terrain. The shifters are silky smooth and the chain easily finds its sprocket with the 105 derailleurs.

The S7 rolls on a set of lightweight Entity tubeless ready wheels with aero spokes and sealed bearing hubs wrapped in Schwalbe Lugano clincher 700x25c tyres. Completing the bike are lightweight, hydroformed and butted Entity Xpert components including short drop handlebar, stem, seatpost and saddle.
