1/7/12 Team Polygon Australia Announced
The pathway for young cyclists in Tasmania has become even more secure with the signing of a long term agreement for one of the country’s leading domestic teams.
Tasmanian Pro Cycling CEO Nigel Baker said “I’m thrilled to announce that International bike manufacturer Polygon has agreed in conjunction with key stakeholders the Tasmanian Institute of Sport and the world’s largest financial services provider Deloitte, to become the naming rights sponsor of the team until the end of 2014”.
What was formerly known as the Pure Tasmania Team will now be known as “Team Polygon Australia”.
As a development team for both men & women Baker said “it is essential for the long term future of the team & our athletes from Tasmania that we work with a company that believes in what we are achieving and shares the same common goal of helping to provide a development structure that can offer a pathway to both National Teams as well as a stepping stone to bigger professional teams both within Australia & overseas”
“The success of the team to date has been enormous with Grace Sulzberger (Jayco-AIS) winning the National Road Series last year, and more recently Alex Clements racing with the Australian U23 team in Indonesia where he showed he is progressing well with his career and of course current junior world champion Georgia Baker who is following in former team member Amy Cure’s footsteps by being selected for both the Track & Road Junior World Championships this year and looks to have a very bright future in the sport” said Baker.
As an integral partner in the team, Tasmanian Institute of Sport Head Coach, Gene Bates said “It’s quite an achievement that a world class company like Polygon have come on board, but most importantly they believe in what we are trying to achieve for our athletes & help them within a semi professional structure to achieve their best. What this does in terms of providing a secure financial base for the team as well as providing some of the best equipment available is excellent & will no doubt help us develop the next Goss, Porte, Cure or Sulzberger.
In 4 years time, leading into the Rio Olympics I believe we will have several athletes from within our structure competing for spots on the Australian team as well as some that may well be riding at pro tour level & with the support of Polygon it just makes our job easier to help them along the pathway”.
Polygon International Marketing Manager, Mr Yustian Nimara said “Having worked with the team this year as their official bike sponsor we have seen first hand their passion and structure as a development team within Australia and we are thrilled to extend our partnership and become the naming rights sponsor of the team until the end of 2014 and hopefully beyond”.
Baker said “Polygon are a world class company, their factory is world class and so are their bikes. They manufacture nearly 1 million bikes per year and sell them throughout the world and along with our other partners Santini Clothing, Lazer Helmets, Ronde gloves & socks and Gaerne Shoes we believe we have an excellent network to develop the next crop of cyclists including the likes of Lauren Perry, Macey Stewart, Jake McMahon, Danny Pulbrook, Oliver Martin and so on.
